I'm going to buy a film scanner in July. So far I've been eyeballing

The one compelling advantage of the 4000 over the IV ED is single pass
multi-sampling. I'm disappointed with the ability of the IVED to pick
out detail in dense areas. But as a disclaimer the IV is the only film
scanner I've used extensively so I'm not sure if it is par for the
course or if you can do much better. What I do know is that
multi-sampling REALLY helps reduce the noise in dense areas but that it
is EXTREMELY tedious with the IV ED...so tedious that I just live with
the noise for non-critical scans.
Fortunately the scanner belongs to a friend and isn't my investment. I
think I'd save my pennies and go for the 4000 if I were purchasing, but
I'd love to hear from someone who has used both.
