David Foster has been reporting his difficulties with his attempts to
calibrate his lacie monitors. One key suggestion only, which in my version
of Prove-it is non-intuitive in the instructions: when you open Prove-it,
you choose the system profile to work from, and the settings. It doesn't
matter which profile you begin with, since it is completely overwritten at
the end, but you must choose "uncorrected" in the settings menu. Otherwise,
you are profiling on top of an already compressed LUT of the previous system
profile settings. If you re-profile a few times doing this, your LUT becomes
so compressed you can never achieve a good match. Your monitor brightness
keeps going down, so you turn the monitor up, and up... until you are at
100% with no real black and crazy off-color trash on screen. Make sure you
start with "uncorrected."
