I hope this isn't too far off topic. Running out of places to turn.
I have a Fiery Ripstation 5000 connected to an Epson 5000. It started
receiving files extremely slowly regardless of platform or protocol;
Classic Mac OS, OS X and Windows, AppleTalk & TCP/IP. A work
associate suggested I reload the system software. He is a Canon
technician I have worked with for many years on CLCs & Fierys. He
says he needs to reinstall the System software on his Fierys from
time to time, which was my experience as well.
Epson has informed me that the unit needs to be shipped to them for
reloading the System software as it cannot be performed by the end
user. I have successfully reinstalled the System software on Fierys
for Color Laser Copiers several times. The process couldn't be
easier; boot the System CD from an attached CD-ROM drive and go.
The suggestion of reloading the System software sounds great, but of
course not a certain solution. This makes a simple troubleshooting
step a huge pain. Does anyone have access to a source for a System
CD? I do not have the version number as I write this, but I can get
it when the work week begins.
There may be a silver lining: perhaps I can justify to my client the
need for a different RIP that is easier for me to profile and can
this one!
