Hmm...defining ID2 colors as Lab and placing Lab from Pshop with the
new Image Interpolation function keeps PDF 1.3 light versus enabling
the include ICC profiles checkbox which for type defined as Black = K
100% includes the high resolution profile for the CMYK working space.
What ID2 is doing is actually correct here, because the application
can't tell what the repurposing setup will want: Either manage the
color of K 100 % in the source document CMYK working space to the
destination reseparation / proofing space or skip color management
and keep incoming solid black 100% solid black K 100% on the
outgoing side.
Also something else for the RGB side of all this: With Lab there is
no issue over assigning, so if the application that prints the PDF
1.3 document doesn't support ICCBased for RGB, then with Lab there is
no change in saturation as there is with RGB depending on the size of
the assigned RGB space. It's actually the same as the issue over
screendumps: Assign the monitor profile and convert to the RGB
working space isn't so hot with a large RGB working space, but assign
the monitor profile and convert to Lab works no problem.
Also Time Inc announced that its 56 titles will go PDF by June 1st,
bye bye TIFF/IT and other non-color managed stuff. Seybold seems to
consider TIFF/IT a format where color space issues are resolved
before they land on the press. How one could come to this conclusion
I cannot imagine????
