Can anyone recommend alternative scanner software which is more
colorsync
friendly or just better in any other way.
Does anybody out there using this scanner experience EXCESSIVE noise
scanning color neg, not a little a lot! Beginning to wonder if
something is
wrong with scanner. Also get harsh random noise when using a
non-native
aperture setting interpolation with scanner software "Trident Drum
3.5.5 b6"<<<
We have encountered the same problem with a Howtek D4500, only on color negatives. We have tried Polaris, Trident, and Silverfast, and they all do it, hi-bit or not. I won't get into my personal theory on what causes this, but I am not optimistic that there is an easy solution. Please post if you find one! Aztek (
http://www.aztek.net) sells a product called Digital Photo Lab for Howtek drum scanners that is targeted to the color neg market. I have not tested it for this particular problem. Aztek also stocks the white calibration strips, which are also available from Howtek. If your strip is shot, you probably will be needing the little rubber pads that go on the open end of the drum soon too.
