This is not good. I wonder if a workaround would be to embed the printer
manufacturer's default profile to a copy of the test target, save as
TIFF, then open the TIFF in Preview which *does* see embedded profiles,
then print it from there using the default printer profile as
destination. In theory this would tell ColorSync on OS X to NOT convert
the document since source and destination are the same.
Still, this is far from intuitive.
The bigger problem as I see it is for applications that do their own
color management like Photoshop's print dialog. If what you are saying is
true, then *all* Adobe app's print dialogs for color management are
rendered USELESS because no matter what we can't turn color management
off in the printer driver. It means we are forced into using only the
ColorSync engine for printing, and can't use Adobe's ACE for printing. It
also means that you are guaranteed to get double color management if you
use Adobe's print dialog color management options.
I'm sure I've seen printer drivers from Epson on OS X that still have the
"no color adjustment" option - but can't remember for certain. I would
think that means what it says- NO driver level color management.
We need answers.
