I use Trident v4 software on my Howtek HiResolve 8000 drum scanner and have
come to a rough opinion over the last few years:
1) I like the control of using the film density (Dlog readings) to specify
endpoints and neutral settings.
2) I want to be able to enter RGB of CMYK mid-curve values within the curves
tool
3) I like to view the histogram and adjust the endpoints based on film
density
4) I like being able to set quarter-, mid-, and three-quarter gray settings
in the curves tool
5) I want an easy way to implement an ICC profile when I am scanning film
that is not of the same brand, density, quality as that of my IT8 target
6) I like the palette UI of Photoshop
7) I want the tools of my scanner software to be the same as Photoshop
8) I want output in TIFF, PSD, or EPS in 8-bit or 16-bit format with a
preview embedded in the file and an embedded ICC profile
9) I want access and control over the hardware from the software (firmware
updates, diagnostic routines, interrupt control)
10) I want this interface to match the interface of which ever digital
camera I choose every 4 years.
Am I wishing at the well? Thanks for asking.
