Someone could to remember about this subject on list?
The 'Inkjet profiling ABC' appeared in the Digest on Tue, 19 Dec
2000. The idea was to help folks see that each hardware configuration
requires its own black generation and ink limit. So the advantage of
a digital contone proof is that it not only converts the colors
right, but also converts the incoming offset, gravure or newsprint
separation with high black replacement and high ink limit to an
inkjet separation with low black replacement and low ink start.
Folks have the idea that a proof is when you lay down the SAME CMYK
values on the press as on the proof. This idea is misconceived cf
e.g. the Seybold proofing shootout (which itself failed to state the
principle that in a digital contone proof (a) the colors are managed
and (b) the reseparation is managed).
