The new product is called ColorEyes and it is available at
www.integrated-color.com Now here is the deal with camera profiling. You
need to make one profile under very controlled conditions. The fact that
various strobes put out different color temps is taken care of when you gray
balance. Now if you have a series of heads that you are using for one shot
that vary a lot in temp this is not something you can fix with a profile.
Then again you could not fix it by switching emulsions either. If you want
profiling to work you need to do similar things that you might do with film,
only your digital camera is much more sensitive. Test your lights and change
any tubes that are way off. Replace any heavily yellowed softboxes. Once you
have a set of lights that are reasonably well matched then a profile will
work very well. You do not need to profile every situation. When you gray
balance under your choice of light you have relinearized the camera to work
with your ONE profile. Again let us not blame failure of profiles for
something inherently inaccurate about lighting. If your lighting varies by
several hundred degrees across the set, ain't no profile gonna fix dat!
