We've played with the D1x a bit. My understanding of the camera and
accompanying software is that the camera (even "raw" NEF files) shoots in
your choice of two color spaces, sRGB and Adobe RGB(1998). You also have to
choose which output space in the software. We had the same situation. We
had set the camera to capture insRGB and everything was coming into
Photoshop tagged with Nikon Adobe RGB. If you go into Preferences and click
on the CMS tab, there is a choice for specifying your working RGB space
(which I assume should match whichever space you specified in the camera
settings).
I'm hoping this will spark a discussion on which is the better choice for
shooting on this camera. If the "native" space of the camera is sRGB (and I
think it might be) than I really don't see any benefit of bringing the file
into a bigger editing space. Why not just leave it in sRGB and do your
editing there?
From what I have seen the camera outputs some pretty nice looking files,
but the software seems difficult to integrate into an production workflow.
Maybe Nikon is listening?
