In Macworld June/2001 Bruce Fraser made a CRT vs. LCD test, and the
results were pretty obvious in the favor of a good old CRT. At
SeyboldSF, the question of using a LCD for color-critical work came
up in the cms-seminars, and was pretty much shot down by the hardcore
icc-geeks.
The times are a changing, and I wonder if there are some fresh
followups on this issue out there.
The question of a limited viewing-angle is of course one important
thing, but some improvements has been made here. One important issue
is the unevenly distributed luminance across the screen. Different
settings has started to show up in the menus of the lcd (RGB-"Gun"
adjustment, Gamma) adding confusion.
What is of greatest practical value is the profileability of the
LCD:s and bringing them down to a luminance of say 90cd/m2 to be able
to use them for color-critical work in a mixed LCD/CRT environment.
We have done tests with Colorvision4s Optical and LCD Spyder, Gretag
Spectrolino and Optical and the iOne+iOne Match On a G4+15"LCD. After
this I was just more confused because the profiles were quite
different from eachother.
Does somebody know of a good source of information on this issue?
Thanks,
Per Savander
