After reading the reply from Jack below regarding 'camera profiles' I have
some questions I would liked answered,
any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using 'Lightphase' technology
and I found from the start that when
gray balancing whether on a grayscale, macbeth colour chart or on the
product (e.g stainless steel knives and forks)
the balance was way off. After going into the software and manipulated the
RGB curves, the program is now grey balancing
very well. Although the program can now neutralise colour casts, the chip
in the camera has trouble rendering specific
Russ, I am very curious why you are not getting good neutral when you gray
balance. Have you tried gray balancing with only one light turned on and
color management turned off? Try that and then try all of your lights this
way. It only take 50 to 100 degree kelvin difference to create a unwanted
color cast. Next I would strongly suggest building custom camera profiles.
Even though your camera is properly gray balanced it will not record all
colors correctly. In fact it may not record many besides gray accurately.
Once you have done these two things most of your color problems will be
fixed. The rest you can deal with in Photoshop. I would not suggest making
color adjustments in capture software but in Photoshop or Colorblind Edit
where the tools are far more powerful and dependable.
