ColorMatch RGB converting to SWOP will still give you a 1% cyan dot in
otherwise non-imaged areas. If the press doesn't hold a 1% dot, then
you're off the hook. In any event, RGB to CMYK conversions with absolute
colorimetric rendering is rarely a good idea in my experience. Actually
I've never had it produce results I like but I'm sure there's some
combination of profiles and a crazy output device that would make it work
OK. I think it's just bad advice that you're getting. Absolutely
colorimetric rendering is typically referred to as the "proofing"
rendering intent when you want one class of device to simulate another of
the same class. That means printer-printer combinations are OK, even if
it's RGB to CMYK or CMYK to RGB. Ultimately you want the combination that
gives you the results you prefer visually.
