Gary, my major profile experience is with Adobe software - but are you using
RelCol transforms by any chance? If you were using perceptual, then you
should be getting the same results for the shadows as with RelCol with BPC
enabled (in my limited experience).

If the other software does not offer BPC in RelCol transforms, then I would
expect plugged darker shadow transitions and loss of shadow detail - is this
what you mean by 'poor'.
I would always recommend providing preseparated work for Quark to simply
pass down the line unaltered - but thats just me and my workflow.
Perhaps your uncoated shadows are poor - this is uncoated afer all - also
what is the total ink and the CMYK breakup of the shadow?
