Thomas,
I don't think the CLC 900 connects to the Z60 unless they've done something
to the 900...it attaches to the CLC 1120, 1130, and 1150 only. But that's
really immaterial.
Since the ColorPASS V and M series RIP, EFI has included ColorWise as part
of its software. A lot of folks have nothing goood to say about it, but for
many purposes (even proofing) it does a good job *as long as you apply the
settings with some know-how as to what's going on.* The first version of
ColorWise was pretty locked down: there was an option to specify a custom
RGB working space by changing white point, gamma, and primaries in the
driver, but your CMYK simulation options were set in stone. With the advent
of ColorWise 2.0 (available on any ColorPASS "Z" controller), the entire
ColorWise system was opened up: users could send their own ICC profile(s) to
the Z RIP using a utility called ColorWise Pro Tools and set them as
defaults, edit their curves...all fun sorts of stuff.
So, in answer to your query:
If you are dealing with a Z60, you can send any RGB or CMYK profile down to
the RIP with the ColorWise Pro Tool (available on the User Software CD ROM,
or downloadable from Canon--EFI may also have on website, I haven't
checked). The ColorWise engine will, as best as possible (meaning, within
gamut/service condition of copier) reproduce your colors faithfully. If you
have access to it, I would seriously suggest reading the Color Guide manual
that EFI/Canon provide with the Z60 controller. It offers all sorts of color
conversion/management scenarios and more fully describes what's going on
using the installed profile sets on the controller.
