Do you have any techniques or suggestions for arriving at "carefully set
limits"?
When I build a profile for a new media I begin by using a file I got
from Onyx
to test for gray balance and bleeding issues. The file is called "Color
Test
for Gray Balance.EPS". This file has ramps of color gradations,
primaries and
secondary colors as well as K only and CMY and K from zero% to 100%
gradations.
It also has individual patches of color that step from zero to 100% in
10%
increments.
I visually examine this file for solid patches of CMYK and I also look
at some 6 point type in a field of black only for some insight about the
black setting. I also look at how the gradations are being built and how
my yellow looks on top of my four color builds. Yellow is the last ink
to go down and if there is too much ink my blacks begin to look green.
I begin with all my "dark" inks set to 100% and all the light and medium
inks set at zero. Once the settings are determined for the full shade
inks I then set the medium and light inks about 10% lower. Then I look
at that same file again.
Then I run the Ink Limit file to see if anymore adjustment is needed.
Are there any density settings that would apply to Ink Jet printers that
could be used or is a visual method just as good?
thanks,
David Wollmann.
