I find this quite distressing and wonder how consistent the Spyders are? I
always assumed they are both accurate and stable. Does anyone know of any
quality control testing that's been done? AFAIK, there are no independent
bodies that monitor the accuracy of any calibration product. Unless you have
access to several units, or the readings are grossly and obviously wrong,
the accuracy and consistency of these products is almost entirely
manufacturer warranted.
Certainly in my case I have found my Spyder to give what seems like a good
calibration. However, since I am assuming that what I see after calibration
is not only visually pleasing, but accurate to other's with calibration I
don't see any way for me to know for sure unless I either trust my device,
or purchase (or rent or borrow) a "more accurate" device to test it against.
If there is wide variation between units (and even not so wide) perhaps
there would be a market for a low cost outside testing service for
individual units?
