Isn't that normal? If I correctly understand what you just stated, Ektaspace
can contain a lot more colors than your scanner space can. Does it mean
that, if you scan with a Tango, the colors of your slide will "map" further
out into Ektaspace, giving you more saturated colors, which is what I think
is the implication in what you describe in your post?
I don't think so since you start out with some RGB values and map it Lab.
The Lab values into which you're mapping out is an invariant defined by the
IT8.7/1 data file. So that in both cases (you Nikon and the Tango) you are
mapping different RGB to the *same* Lab values. If this is true -- and I
don't see why it wouldn't -- then a Tango should not yield a larger gamut
than a Nikon scanner on the same filme? Just (far) better gradation and
dynamic range.
Which has me thinking twice about this relationship. Interesting theoretical
point. Let's hear what others have to say about this.
