I posted this on the PRODIG list and was recommended to post to this
list. Sorry for the repeat for those who get both lists.
Hi
In what I now realise is a never-ending journey in the quest for
better colour management, I have recently invested in the Gretag
Macbeth Eye-One Bundle. This includes the Eye-One device, and Profile
Maker Pro 4.1. I have printed the targets on different media (and
printers) and created the first profile. Prior to that I calibrated
and profiled the monitor with the same device.
I do find that the instructions for the package are not as clear or
user friendly as I would like, but that may be due to my lack of
experience. I am hoping that someone on this list may be able to help
with a question or two.
Once I created the profile, I printed the same target file out using
the profile I had created as the output profile. The printed file
differed in a few of the colour patches from the on-screen image. I
imagine that this means that I will have to use the 'Profile Editor'
to edit this. I have called GM tech support, and I guess they expect
their clients to know rather more than I do, so were not able to help
much. They did say that I would need to get hold of a test image - on
disk and hard copy - to be able to edit the profile. What should I
get and where? I live in Canada.
Is it possible for someone to give me a bit of an idea as to what I
should be doing to get what I am looking for? I just want to be able
to produce prints that approximate what I see on screen, appreciating
that with the differences between print and monitor this will not be
identical, but as close as possible. I am reading all that I can get
my hands on regarding colour management, but much seems to be aimed
at pre-press CMYK work for something other than inkjet printers used
as final output.
I will be producing profiles to use in output on the Epson 5500 with
a variety of different media, and profiles on other media to be used
as soft-proof profiles only in PS7, for my Colorspan 12 colour
printer.
I appreciate that you are all busy, so any time you can spare will be
greatly appreciated.
All the best
Ellie
