Here in Northern Europe the situation is that there is widespread
awareness of the ICC advantages of anticipation in the studio and
stability in the press room, but little awareness of the concept of
colorimetric standards for sheetfed as default printing condition.
For instance, Swedish sheetfed printers are starting to ship reference
offset sheets for customers to calibrate their studio workflows by.
Whether these reference sheets are as per standard is another question,
but the concept is to help and hold on to customers. That's good
business.
The awareness of standards for sheetfed is higher in Germany than in
Scandinavia (read: much higher). This has to do with the European Color
Initiative, the Bundesverband Druck und Medien (Printing and Media
Federation), and FOGRA in Munich. Again the approach is through
education.
