Yes, you are missing the simple fact that the monitor's native gamma is the
same no matter what platform your computer is on. So calibrating to 2.2 on
the Mac won't "overcompensate", it simply won't show quite the expected color
in non-color-corrected applications. In Photoshop and the like, it will look
the same either way. CRTs could be described as having a native gamma in the
range of 2.2, but LCDs would best be described as having a synthetic gamma
approximately emulating a CRT. And only roughly emulating a gamma curve at
all!
