I've been lurking on this list for some time, but have never posted and need
some help.
I'm trying to create custom profiles for a friends Epson 2200. I'm using
Colorblind Matchbox with the originally provided color mouse. I get good
results with my Epson 7500, 2000P, 1270, and 1200 using a variety of inks
and mediums. While I know there are better solutions, I think I should be
getting better results than I am. I'm creating the profiles on a Mac using
OS 9.2 and the target machine is a Mac, also with OS 9.2. We're both using
the current version of PhotoShop.
With the 2200 there seems to be a distinct lack of reds and a more than
expected lack of contrast with the custom profiles, while the soft proof
looks as I would expect given the inks and papers. I also noticed with the
canned profiles that when I select the printer profile in the proof setup
window and print using proof setup as the source space and same as source as
the output space I get a different print from when I select the working
space (adobe '98) as the source and the printer profile as the destination.
Did they change or is there a problem with the way driver handles this, as
I'm able to operate this way with all my printers? I also noticed the fact
that if I assign sRGB or my monitor profile to the image, the print and the
monitor image are almost a perfect match.
This whole process is complicated by the fact I'm over a thousand miles away
and am relying on word of mouth and snail mail to see the prints. I've had
him check the system, Photoshop, and printer configurations and they appear
to be in order.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
