When building a CMYK profile for an Epson and a proofing paper like
Best, specifically with the intention of proofing, does it make
sense to use the same black generation and GCR/UCR methods of the
press profile profile I'll be cross rendering from?
Sorry about the wording, I'm just wondering if it bears some
similarity if results will be better. Or maybe since it all goes
back through LAB anyway and black regenerated it's a non issue?
The latter.
I assumed at first I should set total ink to what my paper can take
in order to maximize gamut to make sure it encloses the press gamut,
but then it effects K generation in some colors as well. If there is
sense to having the other settings the same, then should this be the
same as well?
If there is some sense to this, where can I get this info about U.S.
Sheetfed Coated v2? I've searched and can't find it.
Or should I just make the most accurate and and best gamut profile I
can for the Epson?
Yes.
Secondly, are the proofing RIPs doing something that is beyond my
ability by simple multiple conversions with good profiles and proper
rendering intents (including proofer profiles like Kodak Approval or
Matchprint to mimic and toss in the rendering mix when desired)?
No.
