Some time ago I asked the question of how I should transmit Photoshop
files to printers who use no ColorSync profiles and of what is a generic
CMYK profile. I was suggested to convert to Euroscale coated V2 for an
average quality, then to save without embedded profile. I have tried
this method, but when I saw the Sherpa proof that the printer had made
from it, the colors had lost in strength.
I played a little with Photoshop and saw that when saving to Photoshop
EPS, there is an option check box: "proof format, CMYK space". I also
unchecked the ICC profile box. The file saved this way in CMYK without
description showed a great accuracy to the initial image on my screen
when viewed with the soft proofing tool, and the Sherpa that I just got
is right. So it seems to be a safe way of working when the ColorSync
chain is broken?
Are there any problems that could arise when using EPS the way I did and
is it the good choice that I think it is? In fact I have not yet seen
the true press prints, but I guess and hope that if the Sherpa was
right, the prints should be too.
I also wish I could use a similar method for transmitting RGB files with
embedded profiles to non color managed places, but EPS does not seem to
include the profile data in the final file the way it does with CMYK
files. Is there another way to make plain RGB images from profiled RGB
images? I find that using sRGB for digi-prints does not produce the best
match to my screen image. Using my monitor profile gives slightly better
results, but I am not sure this is a good output space. Or is it?
Thanks for your guidelines!
