I got it all WRONG! Some doubts in my mind made me look further and yes,
older PS 6 files saved with a curve layer are the same size as the
flattened image, which mean they didn't include a composite and there was
no "incompatibility" message at the time I created them. But what is
strange to me is that when I now saved the image again with the same
content and settings from PS6, it doubled now in weight! What happened?
Preferences setting? Strange!
