I attended the ColorSync meeting and arrived late from where I teach. The
food was quite good: cheeses, diet coke (most of these folks seem to be
overweight but for Holmes and Atkinson) water, tofu brochettes etc.
Yes, the folks were there venting their wares but at the end Bill Atkinson
gave a talk on how he went about arriving at a profile or two or three for
the newest Epson printers (76-9600). He put in approximately 1200 computing
hours to arrive at a neutral gray scale for the primary Epson papers. These
profiles will be placed on the Epson web site free in a couple of weeks.
My partner, Michael Creedon, and I have been most impressed, however, by the
ColorByte folks who were @ the Seybold floor section. It seems as if one
might be able to purchase they RIP and work w/ANY paper as they'll make a
profile for you. In the long run, it seems the best 'deal' both for quality,
variety of paper on e can employ etc.
However, if you are only going to use the Epson materials, these new
Atkinson RIPS ought be the cat's pajamas.
