Dave,
GATF did a review of some of the leading CCD and CMOS plate readers
for the printing industry. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share the
results on this list because they do charge for the report but I can
tell you that we feel good about our recent decision to use a
spectrophotometer for linearizing plates. The report is available at
gain.net. We have a ccDot4 and it does a fine job reading dot
percentage on Western Litho LT2 plates as well as doing double-duty
as a transmissive dot percentage meter. Our decision to use a spectro
over a ccd was to not spend money on the upgrade to ccdot5 for the
sole purpose of reading fm20micron plates.

Louis Companies

"The world's leading hand-held quality control system" -the Centurfax ccDot4.
The company refuses to reply to my email, my graphics supplier knows
nothing about them.
Has anyone on this list heard about them?
Similar to our Xrite Spectro densitomer we're trying to find out:
1) How much they cost?
2) Does it have a built-in calibration that we do on a regular basis?
3) Does it need to be sent in (to Centurfax for example) to have a
calibration done? And if yes, how often?
Any help or comments on people using one of these devices with their
Colorsync workflow would be greatly appreciated.
Dave
