Hi David
Thank you for bringing the Centurfax range of hand-held digital DotMeters to
the attention of the forum. I am amazed that you have haven't received a reply
from my company, were you using email@hidden ? Let me belatedly try
and answer your questions.
Q: Has anyone on this list heard about them?
A: We have been around since 1979 and have booths at all the major
international print shows including Drupa, Ipex, Imprinta and support our
local distributors at events such as Print / GraphExpo, GEC, IFRA, Newstec
etc. Last year we won the BPIF 'Supplier of the Year Award' in the UK. We have
sold around 5000 of our CCDot units (latest being CCDot5) around the world
with 25-35% of those annual being sold through the major dealer channels in
the USA.
Q: How much they cost?
A: Roughly between 1000 and 3000 British pounds. However, we do not set end
user prices, as we are 'only' the manufacturer. However, you can see prices on
our UK distributor's website www.ripware.co.uk or contact Gripdigital Inc in
the US via www.gripdigital.com .
Q: Does it have a built-in calibration that we do on a regular basis?
A: Every time the unit takes a %dot reading it automatically calibrates
itself. We guarantee this for 12 months then recommend an 'AHC' (annual health
check) as part of our 'Life-time Warranty Plan'.
Q: Does it need to be sent in (to Centurfax for example) to have a calibration
done? And if yes, how often?
A: We have a service centres in the US and the UK, basic 'fixing' can also be
done by many of our distributors and dealers around the world. However, with
FedEx et al we can turn around a unit in a matter of hours from anywhere in
the world.
NB: The CCDot and its optional software "ImageLink" (1x1mm 1-bit TIFF images
of half-tone dots) and "KeyMagic" (numeric transfer of %dot values to Excel
etc) for both PC and Mac does not work in the same way as a spectro,
colorimeter or color-densitometer. It takes a picture of a small area of a
single colour tint area (AM / FM or Hybrid screening) and accurately
calculates the %dot, screen angle and screen ruling of the sample. It does
this on film, offset litho plates, analogue and digital proofs and final
print.
At GraphExpo, Chicago in October, Centurfax will be launching a new product
range, under the name Prova Digital, www.provadigital.co.uk basically we will
be offering two products; a) provaROOM a Rip Once Output Many solutions for
driving any professional colour printer using standard Mac drivers and b)
provaRIP a dedicated professional RIP for driving colour printers, aimed at
designers and originators who want ICC profiled output which will look like
the proofs generated by the production departments and the final press print.
Kind regards
Martyn

"The world's leading hand-held quality control system" -the Centurfax
ccDot4.
The company refuses to reply to my email, my graphics supplier knows
nothing about them.
Has anyone on this list heard about them?
Similar to our Xrite Spectro densitomer we're trying to find out:
1) How much they cost?
2) Does it have a built-in calibration that we do on a regular basis?
3) Does it need to be sent in (to Centurfax for example) to have a
calibration done? And if yes, how often?
Any help or comments on people using one of these devices with their
Colorsync workflow would be greatly appreciated.
Dave
