As I haven't tried it yet and don't have an Epson Ultrachrome ink printer,
anything I could say is a reflection on the valued opinions of some of the
fellow list members as Bruce or Andrew have seen and overviewed the results.
Since the driver seems to fetch very good results (better than the Epson
driver) and it can evoke ICC profiles then this should be able to
approximate a proof as well as can be expected through rgb conversions. In
fact there are a lot more colors that print closer from a rgb workflow than
the few colors that don't which are better on a CMYK rip.
Taking color precision into ones own hands involves quite a bit of time and
trial and error over a long period of time. That's why Image Print and
others recommend staying with the built in set ups. The notions that a
spectro is required to have good output from many of the rips is nonsense.
The developers have people doing very good work on getting things right upon
shipping and certainly have competent people doing the colorimetric set ups
for each printer types. OF course if you want to take it to a higher level
than if you've got the tools and the time, go for it.
