Tips for running PhotoCAL on an iMac (Bondi)?

Dear list.

I have been trying to create a custom profile for an iMac, but the display is always way too bright. The resulting profile is not very good, too strong colors and I cant depend on it at all. Has anyone a secret formula for this situation?
