I did further testing and I find my approach to give
me very good profiles for CRTs and LCDisplays
no matter what the manual advises.
In short ...
a) pull up the rgb gains to 100%, contrast 100%, brightness 50%
as a starting point
b) start precal and tune the brightness according to the instructions until
you barely see the logo
c) Chose a colortemperature (the difference between D65 and 6500K is
very small so throw a coin - but stick with it in your company).
I go for 6500K but I am also currently thinking about a general move
to 6000K.
d) setup the gains so that they are all within the tolerance display AND
the luminance is where you want it. I go for 200cd/m2 for LCDs
because this is what optical suggests. I tried 280 and I found it too bright.
If you have all balanced and can't hit the 200 dead on just
use the brightness controll to give it the twitch it needs but from
then on never touch those controls again unless you want to start over.
e) Quit Precal start Optical. I use precision mode. Have "use calibration"
checked and select a Gamma (I use 2.2). The whitepoint has to be
set to "native" and you should now ignore the blackpoint and whitepoint
luminance settings.
f) Press the button calibrate and attach the device
e) Skip the settings for blackpoint (brightness) and whitepoint (contrast).
g) Save your profile and check if it is setup in your OS correctly.
Done.
Any comments are greatly appreciated. Otherwise I hope I could help
as there have been some private mails asking to share any advice I
can give.
