I have been using a Colorblind system (Prove It USB, Matchbox Profiler and
Edit) since late 1999. I have G4s running OS9 and OSX, an Imacon Flextight
Precision 2, a Fujix Pictrography 4000, and a couple of small Epsons.
Occasionally, I send files to a lab for Lambda prints and I usually have
them print a target to profile. This setup has been working very well. I may
soon be involved in setting up files for Indigo or another 4 Color
Traditional Process.
I need to upgrade my system. And, since my Colorblind Color Mouse is now
broken, maybe it is time to switch to a better, more powerful system. I have
been looking into Monaco and Gretag McBeth Eye One Bundle, but I hesitate to
invest without further conference with other users...
Any suggestions?

Alison,
We've been using an EyeOne Pro (UV) and MonacoPROFILER combination since
July and have been extremely happy with the results. We've made profiles
for a Pictrography 3000, 3 different 1280's (using Epson's Photo Enhanced
mode) and a 5500 and another 1280 driven with ColorByte Software's
ImagePrint RIP. All with excellent results.
I haven't used any other profiling packages however, so I couldn't offer an
opinion on competing packages, but I can tell you the MonacoPROFILER
interface is extremely quick and easy to use. And the software "under the
hood" seems to be very sophisticated, because we've not yet had a need to
tweak any of our profiles, although a powerful profile editor is part of MP.
The EyeOne Pro UV in "strip reading" mode is relatively fast and easy to use
once you get the hang of it, and we've been very happy with the quality of
the data it generates. For the money it's proven to be a very versatile and
accurate spectrophotometer.
