In my own experience.
I made some instalations and profling for Best (until 4.5) and more for ORIS
(the latest).
BEST have better interface, easy instalation and better support for impose
pages. Color out-of-the-box with recommended media and ink is very good.
against: I never could solve the scum black dots with older printers. Not
so fast and the methods of keep linearization and ICC together is very
tricky for beginners and evem medians.
ORIS is very fast, I like so much of their linearization approach (more
options), and the full version have an incomparable selective correction
tool that I haven't seen in others RIPs (you could to select a imput value,
100C 40M see in another window the CMYK value correspondent -after
linearization and ICC tranformations - and change the after/CMYK values, you
could evem to especify the "range" or/and only change gray balance). The
Color Tunner have very intersting and some difficult tools.
against: interface is very poor, the setup process is VERY unusual
(comparing with anothers RIPs), the lack of better imposition pages support.
I'm not sure about the postscript level of latest version ( was 2).
I hear good things about the new Best upgrade (4.6) , I haven't tested yet.
I'm sure that will be differents comments from others.
