By and large the expectation is that a guide gives a rule as starting
point, the reason for the rule, and possible exceptions to the rule.
IMO arguing from 'ideal polarities', as is often done in the
non-technical fields, is OK in the technical field of color management,
too. And thanks for pointing out that systematic layouts are not
technical history.
