Abe,
Were you measuring samples that had some gloss, with the specular component
included? Some sphere instruments have a specular light trap or port so that
the specular component can be excluded. How well this works depends on the
gloss profile of the sample and the specular trap characteristics. If a
significant specular component is included, then this can dilute the
measurement causing increased reflectance and decreased chroma.
