One of the issues I found when trying to create digital camera profiles for
a customer doing fine art reproductions was I could create a profile that
would faithfully photograph and reproduce the target (MacBeth) but the
paintings were all over the place. I decided this was due to the pigments in
the ink were different than the pigments in the target charts. The different
pigments reacted differently to the light, even though we polarized the
light to eliminate reflections. I found the same true with objects, a
similar hue of red plastic would be different than red fabric or red metal.
This was true with several different software's and several cameras.
Although a good profile improved results some color adjustments was required
on every image.
