Hello,
I can't help but throw in my two cents worth on profiling software. I
have extensively tested and used many of the profiling packages over
the last eight years.
ProfileMaker was my profiling software of choice till fall of last
year. While attempting to create a cmyk profile for an Epson 9600 with
Ultrachrome inks, I discovered an issue with ProfileMaker. Be aware
that if you are creating an rgb profile, this is not an issue. I know
of people that are getting good rgb profiles. If you really need to get
the fullest gamut out of a printer, you need to do a cmyk profile. Also
if you want to control your black generation; cmyk is the way to go.
ProfileMaker seems to have a gamut compression issue with cmyk
profiles. Friends (color theory types) have confirmed finding this
issue. I switched to MonacoProfiler months back and have become very
attached. I'm working on a fine art project with a very picky
photographer. I have been able to create profiles that have met his
very tough requirements with MonacoProfiler. I'm very happy with the
profile accuracy and level of control that this software provides. BTW
- ColorThink and ICCProfileViewer have been a great help in profile
analysis.
