It's made by Sequel. That being the case, I don't know enough about how
these pup's are made to say it's the same as OPTIX. Sequel makes a LOT of
instruments for many companies. I know that the Colorimeter for the Artisan
(made to very demanding Karl Lang spec's) isn't the same as others even
though it's made by Sequel. So I suspect each company has their own
requirements and Sequel obliges. GM makes lots of cars but there's a
definite difference between a Neon and a Corvette!

EyeOne Pro is a Spectrophotometer and thus was build to take emissive and
reflective readings. A newer rev just came out (well it was announced and
several of us doing beta have it) that differs in it has something new
inside that allows it to take ambient light readings. There will be an
upgrade path for older EyeOne Pro's but I think it's like $500 so I don't
suspect many people will go that route.
The new Photo Package will ship with the newer Pro/ambient capable
Spectrophotometer. EyeOne Photo is a software option (so to speak) that
doesn't do CMYK output profiles. I think the Spectrophotometer is the same.
I'm not sure how GM is handling the "dongle" issue. That is, the EyeOne is
the dongle. Photo only does RGB. There must be a way to code the EyeOne to
"unlock" in an upgrade fashion, the ability to now do CMYK. I could be wrong
but that's what I suspect.
