For the small amount of profiling I do my Digital Swatchbook has served
me well. A few hours of tedium reading loads of patches one at a time
followed by happily printing for months through good profiles. I
couldn't justify the cost of a more automated patch reading instrument.
I've just installed an Epson 9600 and want to make a pile of new
profiles (standard driver, not a RIP). I'm getting ill at the thought
of reading all of those patches. The new Eye-One Photo bundle sounds
like an attractive solution but before I fork over the cash a few
questions for those of you who've used this thing:
Can I profile monitors on more than one workstation with this thing or
does that require additional licenses?
Can the instrument export data to a text file so that I might use it to
acquire data that could be used in another app that might not support
this instrument (I have CompassProfle and ColorSynergy)? Assuming yes,
can it even read a target from one of those apps? I seem to recall
reading somewhere that it needs a certain amount of contrast between
patches to recognize where one ends and the next starts or in other
words that it needs a target specifically arranged for the Eye-One.
