During the March meeting of the San Francisco Digital Imaging Group (SFDIG),
the SRO crowd was treated to an hour-long, alternately informative and
humorous, virtuoso soliloquy on color management by Bruce Fraser and a live
demonstration of a color managed workflow from shoot to proof by Mark
Rutherford. Thanks to Mark Williford and Jenoptik for sponsoring the pizza
and soda.
The next meeting of SFDIG will be held Tues., May 6th at 6:30 PM at Blue Sky
Rental Studios (2325 3rd St, suite # 434). The topic is 3Displays and
Monitor Calibration: The State of the Art2. The featured speakers are Son
Do of Rods & Cones and Rob Galbraith of robgalbraith.com. Son is Senior
Color Specialist with Rods & Cones, and among the most experienced color
consultants in the country. Rob is founder of robgailbraith.com, one of the
most respected and widely-read web sites on digital photography. Son and
Rob recently conducted extensive tests of two industry-leading displays, the
Sony Artisan and the Apple Cinema Display, along with a variety of monitor
calibration and profiling packages. On May 6, they will be sharing the
results of their tests and responding to your questions.
We will have a model of both the Artisan and Cinema Display on hand for your
viewing pleasure. And Artisan Product Manager, Carla Ow, along with Artisan
Product Architect, Karl Lang, will be present to discuss the Artisan and
answer questions.
Lastly, Tom Kunhardt of Kodak will be presenting the new Kodak 14n, a 14
Megapixel full-frame digital SLR camera.
For those who have not yet had a chance to contribute, we will continue to
collect a voluntary $20 annual membership fee to cover ongoing costs, such
as pizza, soda, and chair rental/purchase. Please make your checks out to
SFDIG.
At the last SFDIG, the one-hour pre-meeting tutorial "Digital Imaging
Basics" conducted by Rita Amladi of Orion Arts and Communication was also
very popular, and we were not able to accommodate all those interested in
attending. Thus, we will be conducting the tutorial again (with an emphasis
on displays and monitor calibration), with those on the waiting list from
last meeting receiving priority admittance. This service is provided free
of charge to SFDIG members, but you must RSVP to attend (RSVP to
email@hidden). The course will be from 5:30 to 6:30. Please arrive
by 5:15 for registration. As usual, pizza and soda will be served from 6:30
to 7:00.
SFDIG is open to all professionals involved in digital imaging, such as
photographers, designers, prepress providers, etc. Each meeting will
feature a power user or industry expert discussing a specific element of
their digital workflow. The intention is to help attendees develop their
knowledge of "best practices" in digital imaging and to provide a forum for
discussion with colleagues. In addition, each meeting will feature a short
product demonstration related to the topic being discussed.
Bring yourself, your ideas, your war stories, and your enthusiasm. If have
questions about the upcoming meeting, please email John Martin at
email@hidden. If you'd like to be added to or removed from the
distribution list, please contact Clark Omholt at email@hidden
Feel free to pass this announcement along to interested colleagues.
