Rich,
As the Product Manager for the KPG Matchprint Inkjet Product line I will try
to answer your question objectively.
We have over 3000 Matchprint Color RIP Installations all of which are using
our CFM daily to produce color accurate inkjet proofs. The Matchprint Color
RIP is an open ICC RIP that supports the leading inkjet printers available
today, the solution is also SWOP certified (when used as part of the
Matchprint Inkjet System) and is also Pantone Licensed.
Our CFM is core to the color accuracy and repeatability that our customers
experience. In addition to managing color transformations the KPG CFM also
gives the operator the option to set parameters for black generation either
using the profile settings, UCR, GCR or by retaining black data (i.e. a 20%
black tint will print with black ink only).
The first time you select a set of color parameters (reference profile,
destination profile and black generation) the CFM creates and caches a
device link which takes about 30 secs - 1 minute. This is a one time only
activity since the same device link is used for all subsequent
transformations with the same parameters.
If you have further questions about Matchprint Inkjet or about how the CFM
works please don't hesitate to contact me.

I just recently profiled an EPSON 10000 fronted by a Kodak Polychrome

What I ended up doing, to gain speed (because the CFM conversion is sooooo
