In addition you can donwload the free shareware basICColor catch and you can
get a 14 day demo for the "control" feature:

That's useful to know however, GM's MeasureTool does the functions needed
here and runs in demo forever! So perhaps to be competitive you could allow
this in your product. Once a user builds a reference and target (again using
FREE stuff), they can check the issues Dennis wants forever in a product
that runs in a demo mode. That's kind of nice...

You never bothered to download and test basICColor control, so you are talking about stuff you do not know. In some cases, free doesn4t necessarily mean that what you get is the best solution for a certain task. If something runs in demo mode forever, the manufacturer may not really be interested in developing the product further. This can clearly be seen when comparing Measure Tool and basICColor control. When FOGRA changed the criteria in checking the proof control strip, control was the first product to offer this feature. Measure Tool doesn4t have it to this day. control is fully automated through XML and can be set up so that somebody who knows nothing about color, computers or spectros can perform the task of checking proofs - a red "traffic light" will tell him, when he exceeds the thresholds. You can use two levels of thresholds for the predefined criteria plus you can define your own. You get reports that can be stapled to your proof and show the printers that the proof is within the ISO standard (for example) and that the color contained in the proof is printable.
For those who need to be productive and want to spend as little time as possible for a task like proof checks, a product that costs money may bee cheaper in the end. If you do proof checking as a hobby, you may be fully satisfied with a free product, that only costs you time.
