Samsung LCD

I have been trying to calibrate a Samsung 171N LCD on a windows XP system. The monitor front panel has controls for brightness and contrast as well as for RGB "gain". Am I right in assuming that these RGB controls are just adjusting the LUTs? Is it best to set these to default settings and just use the brightness control an ignore all other controls (C. David Tobie recently posted about a G4 powerbook display advocating this approach). I am using an i1 with PM 4.5.1.

Also, the display control panel indicates the monitor is displaying in 32bit. Should this be set back to 24bit.

Simon
