Hi Joseph. It sounds like your printer is waiting to get information from the rip. I'm not sure about DE but in BCP you have the option of ripping and printing simultaneously. I would suggest turning this off, rip the file first, then send it to the printer to see if you still get the hesitation you mentioned. You haven't stated what connection you have between the rip and printer. Is it ethernet, firewire or usb(1 or 2). I remember some talk a few years ago about the ethernet cards from Epson not working very well with the BEST rip. BEST has used network cards from SEH on their printers in the past. I believe you can purchase these cards from BEST directly. Here is the link to the manufacturers site in any case.

I'm not sure what the size and complexity of your files are. I'm assuming this is a dedicated computer for the rip and not being incorporated as a workstation as well (at the same time?) You can add an extra drive and set up your print queues there. That should help speed things up. Maybe some more ram as well. You'll have to give me more specifics about your setup in order for me to get a better idea of what might be going on. Have you tried searching the BEST Forum for others who may have run across this same issue? It's a very useful tool in trouble shooting problems. And yes, sometimes BEST's tech support can be a bit frustrating. But they're certainly not the worst of the lot, believe me! The BEST rip is quite complicated to setup and one little missed setting can kill you. As well, there are myriad factors that may be contributing to the problem and it's very difficult to try and figure all these things out over the phone. BTW, have you contacted your BEST dealer, the one you bought this software from, about any of these issues?

Peter

Anyone out there used the Best Color Designer Edition 3.0 RIP for Mac
OS X? We have two MAJOR issues that deem this software unusable. I keep
getting the runaround in the form of really lame responses from Best,
which sad to say, has the worst for product support. So I want to throw
this out to the professional community in hopes of resolving the
following issues:

1) The control strip/color bars do not print. We have tried all
recommendations from product documentation and Best support to no
avail.

2) The print speed is terribly SLOW. The normal Epson driver prints
fast, even unidirectional. When the Best DE is controlling, it takes
about 30 minutes to print a medium coverage letter size page. There is
a hesitation after each line, the print head waits anywhere from 15
seconds to 2 minutes.

A proposed bug fix link directed us to the Best site, but no fix was
there. They mentioned an .exec file, so maybe this is only available to
PC users? Anyway, I logged in and went to downloads for DE and there
were none available.

We are using a G4 iMac with 512MB RAM running OS 10.2.8.

Given Best's reputation for quality RIPs, this one leaves me with a bad
feeling... even though it's a "lite" or "designer" edition, I am
starting to believe that Best has released a real dog in the
marketplace.

I hope someone out there can tell me different.
