Rob,
In a message dated 12/12/03 12:14:55 AM, you write:
<< Everything looks great on the monitor, a Panasonic PanaSync S21.>>
Unless your monitor is properly calibrated, then what you are seeing on the
monitor is not exactly what you have, and thus you cannot really determine if
the print mismatch is that of the file or the printer.
<<When I try to print the same image using the Epson 2200 with colorsync, the
color is off, usually on the too much magenta side. In PhotoShop, the
Conversion options Engine = ColorSync and the color sync options are
selected in the Epson printer driver. >>
It looks like you are applying the profile twice, both in PS and in the Epson
driver.
<<When I turn off all colorsync options in Phtotshop and use the
Conversion Engine = Adobe ACE and "No Color Adjustment" in the printer
driver (Epson help file recommends not to do this but Epson Tech support
suggested I do), it works. It's not perfect but I can live with it and
compensate for it on my own to produce good output product.>>
With that scenario, you are turning colorsync off at both levels, again , not
what you want to be doing.
So, try this. Print from the "print with preview" dialog in PS, and using
colorsync, set the "source space" to your working space - probably adobeRGB or
sRGB - and then set the "print space" to the printers profile for the paper
that you are using, and set the rendering intent for perceptual with black point
compensation set to on. THEN, in the Epson driver dialog, choose the paper
type you are using, and under advanced options choose "no color adjustment", and
then print away. Try this and see if it helps.
However, be aware that you may never constently achieve a good screen to
print match without a good monitor profile and a good (custom) printer profile for
each ink and paper combination that you are using.
You might also check out some literature on the subject such as "Real World
Color Management" and a web site such at digitaldog.net, as well as many others
that deal with color managment.
Hope this helps,
Ed
