I should point out that Safari 1.1 (on Panther only apparently) does use embedded profiles in images, both standalone as well as called by HTML. If you go to the following URL you can test your browser:

http://www.color.org/version4html.html

I tested Safari 1.1, OmniWeb 4.5, Internet Explorer 5.2 (must turn on ColorSync and relaunch), and they all pass completely. Camino 0.7 (formerly Chimera), Mozilla 1.5, iCab 2.9.7, and Opera 6.03 fail entirely.

The previous version of Safari had some problem where it ignored embedded profiles, but I don't remember exactly what it was. I had displayed this same test with the previous version of Safari and all quadrants worked except for the YCC-RGB one.
