Martin's BPC question

Martin:

Black Point Compensation is something Adobe added to it's color engine to make Relative Colorimetric conversions act more like perceptual conversions in the blacks and dark colors. My understanding and my observations indicate that BPC changes nothing and does nothing when perceptual rendering intent is used.

This of course begs the question: why is it enabled when using perceptual rendering? I have no idea. But make a simple posterized gray ramp and try conversions of various types with BPC checked on and off and you will get a rough idea what's going on.
