Most of the people on this list use ColorSync to do one thing, and one

the real work know the characteristics of the display.
The argument is whether or not the OS should provide default
interpretations for untagged color that applications would have to
take significant steps to override. the current situation vis-a-vis
color with OS X, Preview, Safari, iPhoto, and printer drivers could be
charitably described by a rude word that begins with cluster. If Apple
wants to promote ColorSync as a key technology, the very first order
of business should be making sure that ALL the applications it
releases use it intelligently.
Apple's strategy of releasing major OS updates every year, and not
looking back make these CFs last longer than they should. Safari is at
1.1.1 but only for Panther users. Jaguar users are stuck with 1.0 and
there will be a lot of Jaguar users who won't upgrade.
What OS will the next revision of iPhoto be supported on? Only Panther?
If so there's yet another group of Mac users stuck with a version that
mishandles embedded profiles. That this is a known bug and Apple hasn't
seen fit to update it so that Jaguar users (as well as current Panther
users) aren't misled when they initially work with an image in iPhoto
undermines Apple's credibility when they talk about how important color
is.
