I give up. I've been without a flatbed scanner for months now, and the
expense of it POSSIBLY working with more fixes, is more than buying a new one.
I've already put $130 into replacing it's power supply, and none of my
Adaptec SCSI cards (2906, 2930, & 29160) have been able to make the
scanner (Lino-Hell Saphir Ultra) visible on the SCSI chain in OSX, no
matter what I upgrade, or how it is connected or terminated (works in 9).
ATTO-tech says that their recommended solution, the ATTO ExpressPCI
UL3S, would probably do it, but spending $349 for the board and probably
$100+ for a custom VHDCI -> DB25 cable, just doesn't seem like a wise
investment. So, I'll ask again for your recommendations (2nd time
around) for a decent, relatively inexpensive FIREWIRE flatbed scanner.
Film scanning is not much of a priority, since I've got the Imacon for
that, and matching the Lino's 1,000ppi shouldn't be a problem these days.
Software is, however, either what comes with the scanner or the ability
to use SilverFast- what I use now.
It would be nice to have a larger scan area than the Lino's. ...and
actually, it doesn't necessarily have to be new - just in case any of you
happen to have something decent to unload.
Oh yes.... and, of course, if anyone needs, hankers, desires, or has
been obsessively wishing for a good SCSI scanner (hey.. It cost me
$3,700 new!), I know were one can be had at a very very, reasonable price.
