Not necessarily, since something like the X-Rite colorshop is quite
reasonably priced.
Last time I looked at Photoshop, all its Pantone colors were device
values, no device independent values (but maybe this has changed in
the latest versions ?).
I was looking to licence their electronic swatch book data (just
as the above applications do), not to become "Pantone Certified".
In this way we (Colorbus) stand behind the color accuracy of our
products (as always), rather than relying on another party for
our color reputation. Different claim, so there should be a
different cost.
